Italy at the International Hotel Investment Forum 2018 in Berlin

Tuesday, 06 March 2018

On the 5th, 6th and 7th of March the 21st edition of IHIF will take place in Berlin. The most important event in Europe for investments in the tourism sector and among the first ones internationally.

Italy is present via Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (Deposits and Loans Fund), Agenzia del Demanio (Land Registry Office), FS Sistemi Urbani (Italian State Railways Group), Confindustria Alberghi (Association of Italian Hotels) and Istituto Commercio Estero (Italian Institute for Foreign Trade).

After the positive experience of the past years, the Italian presence is further strengthened this year and Italy is involved in the main program of the event with a Breakout Session dedicated to our country, "Italy: New Investment Opportunities Opening".

The theme of investments in tourism is becoming increasingly up-to-date with a volume of hotel transactions that, according to a survey published in recent weeks by EY, saw an increase by 7.2% in 2017 compared to 2016, for a total € 1.6 billion, of which 67% coming from international private equity funds. This is a sign that the sector is increasingly seen to be structurally growing, even by international investors and over the medium and long term too.

“The Italian hotel market is extremely healthy and this impacts positively on the economic and management performance of hotels. Hence the strong interest by international operators and real estate funds in our sector” – says Giorgio Palmucci, Associazione Italiana Confindustria Alberghi. “In a market characterised by increasingly high-quality standards, we work hard to make companies aware of the importance of redeveloping the Italian hotel assets and attracting investments in the sector. For this reason, we have been participating for 4 years in the International Hotel Investment Forum, the world's leading fair of the sector, via Italia Hospitality, thus representing the Made in Italy excellence in tourism proposals”.

“This international event allows FS Sistemi Urbani to underline the Group's commitment to innovation, regeneration and development of the urban fabric” - says Carlo De Vito, Chairman of FS Sistemi Urbani. “A new chance to systematize cooperation and show the opportunities offered by areas adjacent and close to the railway stations of the main Italian cities to the specialist market of hospitality. Our presence in Berlin allows us to make our assets known and have an insight into the requests of the market and of the sector operators”.

“Italy has the highest number of Unesco Heritage Sites in the world, it is the first country in Europe by number of rooms and the fifth country in the world in terms of international arrivals with over 50 million arrivals. Tourism is therefore a strategic component of the Italian economy with improving performance and potential for further growth” - says Marco Sangiorgio, General Manager, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti Investimenti SGR. The Cassa Depositi e Prestiti Group, as a National Promotion Body, is deeply committed to financing investment platforms in strategic sectors for Italy, including tourism property and facilities. By reason of its mission and the institutional role it plays, the CDP Group intends to fully exploit its strategic potential to develop and follow the best international standards in the sector. As anchor investor, it intends to support the attraction of international financial resources in pursuit of portfolio diversification in alternative asset classes having sound fundamentals, such as tourism and hospitality in Italy”.
